About the museum
Weobley Museum is run by the Weobley and District Local History Society and staffed by volunteer stewards. It stands on Back Lane, next to the village library, on the site of the former village police station and magistrates court.
The displays are changed each year and cover local history and culture over roughly the last 200 years. Themes include timber-framed buildings, with models of half-timbered houses, and the story of Weobley Castle. There is also a section about Ella Mary Leather, the author of Folklore of Herefordshire, and a display of Second World War objects together with finds from the Big Weobley Dig.
Other exhibits include traditional farming tools, a long-case clock by a local maker, a Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee exhibit, items from the Weobley workhouse, an Admiralty shield, a knife grinder and a hot-water carrier from Garnstone Castle. A Puzzle Corner is provided for young visitors.
The museum also holds a research collection of monumental inscriptions, trade directory extracts, parish register transcripts, old maps and photographs. Visitors can arrange to meet a curator, and stored documents or objects can be seen with advance written notice. Weobley has a self-guided heritage trail through the village's historic black-and-white buildings.
