About the museum
The Widnes Rugby League Museum opened in 2007 in the East Stand of the club’s stadium in Widnes, which has carried several sponsors’ names over the years and is now known as the DCBL Stadium. It describes itself as the only club-based rugby league museum in the country.
The collection tells the story of the sport in Widnes and of the town’s club, using memorabilia that has been given by supporters and former players. It includes shirts, trophies and match programmes, and it also looks at what life is like for a rugby league player today and why sport matters for healthy living.
The museum runs education sessions linked to the work of the club’s Valhalla Foundation. These are offered to children from early years to key stage 2, with provision for pupils with special educational needs, and combine history and culture with healthy lifestyles. Pupils can go behind the scenes at the stadium and explore the collection through hands-on and interactive activities. Regular public opening hours are not published, and visitors should contact the museum’s heritage group before travelling.
