Over het museum

The thatched four-sided farm south of the village of Keldbylille was built in 1800, when, as part of the Danish agricultural reforms, fields were redistributed and many farms were moved out of the villages onto their lands. It was built by Poul Bendtsen and Maren Larsdatter, whose initials and the year can still be read today in the beam above the old hearth.

The last farmer, Hans Hansen (1884–1964), took over the farm in 1913. He modernized the farming – he owned one of the first tractors in the area, a Fordson from 1923 – but left the farmhouse almost unchanged. Because no farmer's wife lived on the farm for generations, the kitchens and rooms remained largely in their 19th-century state; the kitchen had no electricity or running water until the end. Hansen turned his garden into an unusual layout with a pond, a stone mound and exotic trees.

Hansen bequeathed the farm with its inventory and machinery to the Nationalmuseet, which opened it as a museum in 1968. In 1990 it passed to Møns Museum, which today belongs to Museum Sydøstdanmark. The owner is Vordingborg Municipality; the museum is run by the friends' association Museumsgårdens Venner, founded in 2005, with many volunteers who look after the garden, buildings and old machinery and demonstrate old craft techniques.

Vaste collectie

  • Køkkenet – Three kitchens in the farmhouse show the change in cooking and housekeeping over almost 100 years – from the open fire to the cast-iron stove.
  • Øvestuen – The farm's best room, once a space for celebrations and dancing, later a farmhand's chamber.
  • Maskinhuset – Workshops and a collection of old tractors, farm machinery and hand tools, maintained by volunteers.
