Deutsches Fahrzeugmuseum Fichtelberg
Private vehicle museum in the Fichtelgebirge with more than 1,000 exhibits, from cars and motorcycles to aircraft, across about 11,000 m².
Over het museum
The museum grew out of a private initiative by the Eckert family and opened in September 1992 in Fichtelberg in the Fichtelgebirge after conversion work, at that time as the Automobilmuseum Fichtelberg. It expanded step by step over the following years: in 1994 a special exhibition in a historic brick hall was added, in 1995 an outdoor area with jets and military vehicles, which was roofed over in 2012. In 2007 the exhibition space in Hall I was enlarged; the restaurant "Museo" opened in the restored stone-saw hall with its large steam engine.
With a third hall on Bayreuther Straße, around 4,000 square meters for changing special exhibitions were added in 2018, so that the exhibition now covers about 11,000 square meters. Many vehicles are loans from private owners, so the collection keeps changing.
On display are vehicles from every era, from 1896 to the present: around 200 automobiles ranging from vintage cars to prototypes and race cars, several hundred motorcycles, airplanes and helicopters, fire engines, tractors, tanks, steam engines, and thousands of model vehicles. For families there are also bumper cars and an adventure playground.
