Special exhibition for 2026 featuring a private collection of Playmobil emergency vehicles and figures dating from 1974 onward, some arranged in dioramas of emergency scenes; expected to run until the end of the season.
Over het museum
The museum is run by volunteers of the association Stuttgarter Feuerwehrmuseum Feuerwehrverein Stuttgart e.V. and funded by the city of Stuttgart; the fire department headquarters, the cultural office, and the city's fire brigade federation support its work. It is housed in a former factory hall built in 1906 for the company Assmann & Stockder in the Münster district.
The exhibition spans the period from the first fire regulations – as early as 1492, a Stuttgart ordinance issued by Count Eberhard im Bart governed fire prevention and firefighting – through the founding of the volunteer fire brigade to today's professional fire department. On display are wooden water pipes, fire buckets, and hand-pumped fire engines, above all by the Stuttgart bell founder and fire engine builder Heinrich Kurtz, along with fire alarm boxes, ladders, breathing apparatus and rescue equipment, uniforms, helmets, and decorations.
The centerpiece is a collection of almost 30 vehicles dating from the 1940s to the 1980s, nearly all of which served with the Stuttgart fire brigade, including fire engines, turntable ladders, a crane, and an articulated aerial platform. Since May 2025 a platform lift has also made the gallery level accessible; changing special exhibitions complement the collection.
