The musician and artist, Follow Fluxus fellow 2025/26, explores hearing and not-hearing through film, sound installations, and participatory scores – for example tinnitus, and subtitles as an art form in their own right. The rooms on the third floor are on view until October 25, 2026, and those on the fourth floor until April 2027.
The Kunstverein's contribution to the joint Couleur vivante project with Museum Wiesbaden and Museum Reinhard Ernst: six contemporary positions, including Kapwani Kiwanga, P. Staff, and Frances Scholz, that take a fresh look at abstraction and at the act of seeing itself.
Over het museum
The association was founded in 1847 by citizens of Wiesbaden as a society of friends of the fine arts in what was then the Duchy of Nassau, and it is considered the city's oldest civic initiative. Its aim was to promote art independently of the state and the court. It staged its first show in the painting gallery of the library in the Erbprinzenpalais, and from 1850 it also managed the state art collection until that task passed to the city in 1899.
The Kunstverein (art association) did not get a building of its own until 1979, when it moved into a three-story villa on Wilhelmstraße with about 350 square meters of exhibition space, which was granted to it in 2007 under a 66-year ground lease. In 1994 it received the culture prize of the state capital.
Today the Kunstverein sees itself as a center for contemporary art with a focus on young, experimental positions from Germany and abroad. Since 2008, together with the city, it has awarded the internationally advertised fellowship “Follow Fluxus – Fluxus und die Folgen,” which builds on the Fluxus movement founded in Wiesbaden in 1962. There are also collaborations with art schools and festivals in the region, free programs for children and families, and a project supporting refugee artists. Several permanent works are also installed in the building and garden.
