Ach du liebe Zeit!

Interactive hands-on exhibition for children ages 8 and up and adults on the phenomenon of time – with stations on the past, present, and future.

Over het museum

Artist Annegret Hänsel founded UNIKATUM in 2010 as a civic initiative. Its guiding idea is to translate social issues into "walk-in pictures" that children and adults explore together through play. Until April 2019, the museum was run mainly by volunteers; since then the city of Leipzig has provided partial institutional funding. It is operated by the nonprofit UNIKATUM Kindermuseum gGmbH.

In 2017 the museum was significantly expanded; at the same time the Museumscafé Goetz opened, and the courtyard garden has been developed step by step ever since. UNIKATUM's awards include first place in the City of Leipzig's family-friendliness prize and the Saxon Prize for Sociocultural Engagement.

On two levels, the museum shows hands-on exhibitions it develops itself. Since World Children's Day 2026, "Ach du liebe Zeit!" has explored the past, present, and future; alongside it, the VR Lab, the career orientation show "HandWerkStadt," and the bilingual preschool world "Das Königreich der Phantasie" invite visitors to try things out. In the café, which is free to enter, the small show "Die Erfindung der Zukunft" presents utopian ideas. City rallies, school-holiday workshops, and children's birthday parties round out the program.
