Over het museum
The idea of an aviation museum in Toulouse dates back to the 1980s. The project took shape in the mid-2000s: in 2006 the Pinot site in Blagnac and the name aeroscopia were chosen, and the architectural firm Cardete Huet won the design competition. The foundation stone was laid in June 2011, and operation was entrusted to Manatour, which already ran visits to the Airbus factories.
The first aircraft, including a Concorde, arrived in March 2014, and the museum opened in January 2015. From 2015 onward, Airbus offered further aircraft, including an A380, which led to the construction of a northern apron, opened to the public on March 14, 2020. Airbus and ATR aircraft, among them A320, A340, A380, ATR 42 and ATR 72, are displayed there.
The museum tells the story of the beginnings of aviation and of the people who made it. It presents commercial, leisure and touring aviation, military, scientific and experimental aviation. Among the aircraft are a Concorde, a Caravelle, an A400M and a Super Guppy. The museum also has a documentation centre and a participatory collection of objects from 1950 to today.
