Over het museum
The Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp opened on May 1, 1941, on the heights of the Vosges in the Bas-Rhin department. The site today preserves barracks, the cemetery and other remains of the camp, and hosts a memorial.
The Centre européen du résistant déporté (CERD) was inaugurated in November 2005 by President Jacques Chirac. Designed by the architect Pierre-Louis Faloci, it was built on the foundations of a former concrete bunker at the entrance to the site. Its dark, sober interior supports the message of the exhibition.
The permanent exhibition tells the story of resistance members who were arrested and deported during the Second World War, using films in several languages and computer terminals where visitors can research other camps. The site also hosts temporary exhibitions, guided tours of the camp and educational programmes for schools.
