Over het museum
The Musée Aubois d’Histoire de l’Éducation (MAHÉ) was founded in 1976 on the initiative of the Centre départemental de documentation pédagogique de l’Aube, the Bibliothèque départementale, the Conseil général, the Inspection d’académie and the INRDP (later INRP). At the same time, the association Association des Amis Aubois de l’Histoire de l’Éducation (AAMAHE) was created to collect, archive and promote this heritage.
The museum is located in Troyes, in the premises of the INSPE of the Reims academy, avenue des Lombards. It holds more than 40,000 catalogued documents: primary and secondary school textbooks, works on the history of teaching, pupils’ notebooks, postcards of schools, engravings, manuscripts, plans and scientific equipment from the former teacher-training colleges.
Among the notable pieces are primary school rotation registers from 1921 to 1946, nursery class notebooks from 1898–1899, and the complete Freinet collection. A reconstructed early 20th-century classroom, “La Communale”, welcomes school groups and lets adults rediscover their childhood memories.
