Over het museum
The museum was founded in 1929 by the Town of Bourgoin and the landscape painter Victor Charreton, initially with a focus on fine arts. It opened to the public in 1933. After Charreton's death in 1936, the association of Friends of the Arts continued its work and enriched the collections.
The museum occupies two buildings in the town centre: the former Chapel of the Antonines, built in 1503, whose façade has been preserved, and the 18th-century Hôtel-Dieu. It covers about 1,200 m² across three levels and was renovated in 2000.
The textile route tells the story of weaving and fabric printing in the Bas-Dauphiné, from the first printing blocks of the 18th century to today's computer-based techniques. The top level is dedicated to fine arts, with local painters such as Victor Charreton and Alfred Bellet du Poisat, on display since 2014. The museum also takes an interest in the town's heritage, with studies, exhibitions and guided walks.
