Over het museum

The museum is housed in the Maison Fléchier, a 17th-century mansion that was the birthplace of Esprit Fléchier, a sacred orator at the court of Louis XIV. The building is part of the architectural heritage of Pernes-les-Fontaines.

At the entrance, a display is devoted to the Carpentras Canal, the work of Pernes native Louis Giraud, which allowed the Comtat plain to become the “garden of France” in the 19th century. On the first floor, a 19th-century dining room shows the Christmas “Gros Souper”, with Saint Barbara, the cacho fio, the table with three cloths and three candlesticks, and the meal of thirteen desserts. An adjoining room evokes the wishes made for the newborn child.

On the second floor, the workshop of the last santon maker of the village, Ludovic Montagard, has been reconstructed with his tools, molds and santons, followed by a magnanerie, a place where silkworms were raised, an activity that long provided important income for families in the Comtat.
