Over het museum
The Musée des Traditions was created in 1988 thanks to donations from Biscarrosse residents. It is an association museum, presented and maintained by the Association Culturelle Biscarrossaise (ACB), which has around 120 members and whose mission is to preserve and promote local heritage.
The museum tells the story of Biscarrosse, surrounded by ancient forests and lakes that hide archaeological sites. Visitors discover how the dunes and lakes were formed, the rural and craft activities of the area and, above all, gemmage, the traditional method of tapping pine resin. Reconstructions of scenes from everyday life in the past display furniture, tools and rare archives.
Around the museum, the site includes a teaching farm, where goats, sheep, donkeys and ponies live, and a shaded play area. The association also offers guided boat trips on the marsh, departing from the museum, as well as cultural events and activities such as basketry and porcelain painting. It also maintains the resiners' cabins, isolated shelters in the forest where the resin tappers lived. Behind the museum, the Estanquet building, set in a traditional Landes airial (farmstead), hosts events.
