Over het museum

The museum grew out of the Musée languedocien des transports, founded in the 1960s by a group of enthusiastic friends around a Toulouse collector. It moved premises several times before being attached in 1978–1979 to the Institut de Technologie des Transports et des Communications de Toulouse (ITTC).

The collections were then housed in small premises on Avenue Jules Julien, where they were at first shown only in temporary exhibitions and by means of a travelling bus. The premises were redeveloped into permanent exhibition spaces and reopened in 2008.

On the first floor, the route covers the railway and the history of Matabiau station, with replica wagons, as well as road transport, with miniature vehicles. The second floor is devoted to aviation and to temporary exhibitions. The institute also has its headquarters and documentation centre there, and can show only a small part of its collections, which comprise about 15,000 objects.
