Over het museum
The museum is housed in the former Neuland pumping station, a building erected in 1884 on the edge of the Neuland forest in Colmar. This station once supplied water to the Colmar area.
The museum opened in 1984 and preserves the memory of the city’s municipal utilities: water, gas, electricity, public transport and public lighting. It is run by a volunteer association, with support from the City of Colmar and several local partners.
The route is organized into four themed areas. Highlights include a 1903 water pump driven by a steam engine, a 1896 gas street lamp fuelled by coal gas, a 1906 generator that served as emergency power for a department store, and a presentation on the history of public transport, from the horse-drawn tram to today’s bus.
