Over het museum
The museum’s origins go back to 1985, when a club for vintage aircraft of the Drôme was set up to gather, maintain and fly historic planes. The association “Musée européen de l’aviation de chasse” was made official by a notice in the Journal officiel of June 10, 1987. It was formed around a single aircraft, the Dassault Flamant 312 no. 228, soon joined by the Ouragan no. 214, France’s first jet fighter. The museum opened to the public in 1996.
The site grew gradually: the two historic associations merged in 2005, the reception hall and the Swiss hangar were inaugurated in 2006, the museum of military communications in 2008 and the training hangar in 2014, followed by the opening of the south hangar to the public in 2017. The Potez 36-13 has been a listed historic monument since 2012, and several restored aircraft have won heritage awards.
The museum now displays nearly 80 aircraft across more than 25,000 m², of which 5,000 m² are covered. It also shows engines, models, the cockpit of a DC-7, a Caravelle open to visitors and a window onto the restoration workshop. It presents itself as the most important site for preserving aviation heritage in south-east France.
