Over het museum

The Lann Gouh site in Melrand was discovered in 1902 and has remained preserved since then. It covers one and a half hectares of remains of houses, streets and courtyards, with walls up to 80 centimetres high. This farming village, set at the foot of a hill in the Blavet valley, was inhabited for almost six centuries before being abandoned.

Archaeologists, specialists in ancient timber and pollen have carried out numerous studies here, which have helped to reveal the living conditions of its inhabitants. The site has been developed and open to the public since 1985.

Today, full-scale reconstructions can be seen: houses, a raised granary on stilts, a bread oven, a henhouse, a threshing floor for rye, the workshop of a tanner and a sheepfold. Animals of rustic breeds live in the enclosures, and a garden displays plants documented in the Middle Ages, which visitors can touch and harvest as in the past. The site has also served as a film location for several productions, including the 2008 series Kaamelott.
