Over het museum
In this house in Valladolid José Zorrilla, author of Don Juan Tenorio, was born on 21 February 1817. Valladolid City Council acquired the building in 1917 with the intention of turning it into a house museum. Today it holds personal belongings, furniture and documents that belonged to the Romantic writer, and evokes the atmosphere of the period.
Since November 2007 Casa Zorrilla has also promoted cultural programmes and activities centred on literature, books, poetry and theatre, with particular attention to Romanticism and the figure of Zorrilla. It has a free-access library for researchers. In its assembly hall “Narciso Alonso Cortés”, or in the garden during the summer, recitals, lectures, workshops and performances are held.
