Over het museum

The IVAM CADA Alcoi occupies the former Monte de Piedad building in Alcoi, built in 1909 by the Alcoi architect Vicente Pascual Pastor in the style of Valencian Modernism. The Monte de Piedad arose from the legacy left in 1874 by the industrialist Diego Fernando Montañés, and later the building housed the Caja de Ahorros de Alicante y Murcia, today’s CAM.

After a refurbishment begun in 2000, the building was devoted exclusively to cultural and museum use. It opened in December 2010 as the Centre d’Art d’Alcoi (CADA) and closed nine months later. It reopened on 16 November 2018 under its current name.

The centre has three floors dedicated to art and culture. It is run by the Alcoi town council under an agreement with the Fundación Mediterráneo and with the Institut Valencià d’Art Modern (IVAM) of the Generalitat Valenciana. It combines a programme of contemporary art exhibitions with the promotion of the artists of the comarca.
