Over het museum
The museum was founded in 1959 by a group of young people from Calella and opened to the public in 1979. Its collections come largely from private donations and include archaeological materials, popular ceramics, tiles, textile machinery, tools of traditional trades, clothing, embroidery and the collection of the Barri pharmacy.
The seat is a former country house on the calle de les Escoles Pies, formerly the calle de la Pansa, which Bernat March, a member of a prominent local family, had built between 1636 and 1669. It retains a semicircular-arched doorway and four corbels that supported a defensive machicolation (matacán). Over time it served as a barracks, town hall, municipal prison, school and housing for teachers at the secondary school. In 2010 it was declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Local.
The permanent exhibition occupies the ground floor and the second floor, and is complemented by a courtyard officially opened in 1989, where elements of old buildings in the town and ceramic panels by Joan Baptista Guivernau are preserved.
