Over het museum
The Museu d'Història de Sant Feliu de Guíxols holds the archaeological, ethnographic, maritime, artistic, health-related and numismatic heritage of the town and displays it in three spaces. Its historic main site is the Benedictine monastery, a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional and a symbol of the identity of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Its restoration opened up previously closed spaces, such as the Romanesque towers of the Fum and the Corn, which flank the pre-Romanesque façade of the Porta Ferrada, and the Palau de l'Abat, with rooms for temporary exhibitions.
The Antic Hospital, on the calle del Hospital, houses the permanent exhibition “Una Societat Canviant”, devoted to the 19th to 21st centuries. The building belonged to a charitable institution documented from the early 14th century; it was moved outside the walled town between 1595 and 1602, joined to neighbouring houses in the late 1750s, and received a new façade by Joan Bordàs between 1920 and 1922, crowned in 1929 by a marble Virgin of Mercy.
The third space is the Turó dels Guíxols, a promontory between the harbour and the beach where there was an Iberian settlement and a small 18th-century fort. There the exhibition on 19th-century maritime rescue is presented, and the Civil War machine-gun nest is also visited, which explains the bombing the town suffered.

Details for the Antic Hospital: the main entrance has no steps, and the reception counter has a section at 85 cm and a knee recess. The building has three floors, of which only the ground and first floors are visited, connected by stairs and by a lift suitable for wheelchairs; the temporary exhibition room on the ground floor is not entirely accessible because of a change in level. The lift buttons have Braille and raised numbers, but no audible signal. There are contrasting strips on the first-floor floor, chairs along the route, extensive texts and audiovisuals in which no sound is essential. There is an easy-read route for the permanent exhibition. Guide dogs are admitted. The audio guide does not include audio description.
