Over het museum
Guissona's museum tradition begins with the local scholar Eduard Camps i Cava, who from the early 20th century gathered a collection of historical objects from the Plana de Guissona and donated it to the town council in 1952. These holdings formed the town's first public museum, installed on the ground floor of the town hall. In 1983 the exhibition moved to the chapel of the former hospital, which had been converted into a cultural centre.
In 1995 the Guissona Archaeology Board was created, which promoted scientific management of the heritage and the remodelling of the museum, reopened in 2000 with a reception hall, a permanent exhibition and a temporary exhibition room. Excavations at the Roman city of Iesso, begun sporadically in 1933 and resumed in 1975, enlarged the holdings until a larger building was needed.
From 2010 the ground floor of the Fassina was rehabilitated as a new museum, uniting the museum and the archaeological park. The route presents the resources of the Guissona plain that attracted the Romans, the origins of the town, the re-creation of a Roman house, a necropolis and an audiovisual, and ends with a brief look at the evolution of the town up to the present. The museum is currently preparing a new museum project, whose works can be followed on special visits.
