Over het museum

The museum is part of the Novotný Glass glassworks complex in Nový Bor, which was built up by glass master Petr Novotný (1952–2024). In a building that was once a nursery school, which he bought from the firm Crystalex, a glass furnace, a restaurant and a museum of contemporary glass were established. In 2017 Petr Novotný sold the Ajeto glassworks in Lindava to the company Lasvit, and the complex in Nový Bor began to be called Novotný Glass. After his death in May 2024, his son Ondřej leads the glassworks together with his brothers.

The museum collection contains more than 300 works of art. The first floor presents “The Journey through Glass of Petr Novotný”, i.e. his early works and works by leading Czech glass artists, such as René and Miluše Roubíček or Jiří Šuhájek, as well as works from the Ajeto glassworks, including designs by Bořek Šípek and works by his students. The second floor houses Petr Novotný’s private collection, with works by international artists such as Dale Chihuly, Peter Layton and James Mongrain, and glass trophies and prizes.

The museum adjoins a glass studio, so visitors can watch the glassmakers at work from the museum gallery or from the restaurant, until 15:00. The museum also offers glassmaking activities and a demonstration furnace, where you can try the craft yourself. The sales area offers drinking glasses, souvenirs and glassmaking literature.
