Over het museum
The Pacov municipal museum was founded in 1908 by the historian and secondary school teacher Ferdinand Pakosta. With the help of several enthusiasts he acquired a number of exhibits and installed the first displays. The town archive was also under the museum's administration. After Pakosta's premature death during the First World War, and after a fire at the town hall in 1917 in which the museum lost its premises, a long period of stagnation followed.
A new flowering came with the voluntary curator Jan Zoubek, who set up new exhibitions and expanded the collections. Through his work connected with the legacy of the poet Antonín Sova and with the Pacov Circuit motorcycle races, he brought wider attention to the museum and the town. The museum later occupied a building in Hronov Street, and in 2011 it moved to the restored chateau in Pacov.
Today the museum offers visitors the permanent exhibitions History of the Pacov Region, Pacov and Motorcycle Sport, Life and Work of the Poet Antonín Sova, and the gallery of the painter Jan Autengruber. A new permanent exhibition of Victoria motorcycles has recently been added in the Chapel of St Wenceslas; because of it, the museum is running a trial regime of tours until the end of 2026.
