Over het museum
The idea of founding a museum in Chlumec nad Cidlinou first arose in 1911, but it only became reality thanks to the teacher Jan Polák. In September 1927 he convened the first meeting; in 1928 the association Muzeum Chlumecka was founded, and in 1930 the museum opened in the town hall building. Later the collections were housed in Karlova Koruna Castle, where an exhibition on the peasant uprisings and a memorial to V. K. Klicpera opened in 1971. At the end of the 1980s, the remains of the original collections were taken to the Krajské muzeum východních Čech in Hradec Králové.
Around 2000 a decision was made about the future of the former Loreta monastery. The building was preserved, reconstructed and prepared for a new museum, which thus gained its own building for the first time. Part of the original collections returned from Hradec Králové in 2002, and on 8 June 2002 the Městské muzeum Loreta was officially opened. The founding deed was issued on 1 January 2003, and from that same year the museum has been led by Mgr. Helena Krátká.
The permanent exhibition shows, among other things, shooting targets, guild relics, an executioner's sword and painted furniture from the original collections. A large part consists of the collection of agricultural machinery and tools that František Novák donated to the town in 2000. Since 2004 the museum has been a member of the Asociace muzeí a galerií, and its collection is recorded in the Centrální evidence sbírek (Central Register of Collections).
