Over het museum
The Military museum of General Sergěj Jan Ingr was established in Vlkoš in 2007 and officially opened in 2008. It commemorates Army General Sergěj Jan Ingr, a native of the village and Minister of National Defence in the Czechoslovak government-in-exile in London. The museum is run by the association of the same name, and since 2023 it has been part of the network Péče o válečné veterány (Care for War Veterans).
Personal exhibitions gradually increased, for example those devoted to the military doctors Karel Antonín Macháček and Zdeněk Vítek, to the general's brother Václav Ingr, and to the tank commander Otakar Caletka. During the reconstruction of the building in 2014, presentations of missions of the Army of the Czech Republic were added. In 2022 a major renovation of the upper floor, with audio-visual technology and special lighting, was completed, and the renewed museum was opened by Defence Minister Jana Černochová in the presence of around fifty war veterans.
The static exhibitions trace military history from the First World War through the First Republic, the Protectorate and the Czechoslovak units of the Second World War, up to the Czechoslovak People's Army. Separate sections are devoted to the Czech army's foreign missions in the Balkans, Iraq, Mali, Afghanistan and the Baltic region.
