Over het museum

The Muzeum dopravy ve Strašicích was created by the association ŠKODA-BUS klub Plzeň, founded in 2004 by public transport enthusiasts and owners of historic vehicles. The association cooperated with the Škoda Museum on a planned transport exhibition for the Regional Technical Museum in Plzeň; the project was stopped and replaced by an interactive centre, today’s Techmania. The vehicles therefore looked for a new home and found one in Strašice, where the army had left in 2004 and the barracks buildings passed to the municipality in 2007.

The agreement with the municipality was signed on 4 February 2008, and volunteer work on the grounds began in spring 2008. The first vehicles arrived in autumn 2008; a small transport exhibition was first opened to the public in August and September 2009, and from the 2010 season the gates have been opened regularly during Open Gates Weekends (Víkendy otevřených vrat). The association puts more than 600 volunteer hours into the site each year.

The exhibition, on an area of 3,000 m² in one of the halls of the former barracks and in the surroundings, shows the development of mass transport, mainly in western Bohemia, from the early 1950s to the present. More than 30 large exhibits can be seen: trams, trolleybuses, buses, work vehicles, trailers and historic passenger cars (mostly of the Škoda brand), supplemented by power units, overhead lines, photographs, models and plans. At selected events, historic vehicles run on special routes.

Bereikbaarheid & parkeren

By car from motorway D5, exit 50 (Mýto) towards Svojkovice and Medový Újezd, then along road No. 117 to Strašice; from the municipal office the path runs along the grounds of the former barracks, past the Muzeum Středního Brdska.
