Over het museum
The term ‘Lašské muzeum’ (Lach Museum) or ‘Muzeum Lašská jizba’ was introduced by the Sedliště ethnographer and historian Joža Vochala (1892–1965). In 1908 he was involved in founding the ethnographic association Sedlišťané, and from that same year he collected tools, instruments, costumes, furniture, documents and religious prints that documented the lives of generations of local inhabitants. The basis of the museum was the so-called lašské jizby (Lach rooms), of which there were five in Sedliště; these were ordinary furnished farm living rooms in which objects of folk art and everyday peasant life were stored.
Vochala transferred the collections in 1924 to the nationalised Frýdek Castle, where the first ethnographic museum exhibition later became a branch of the National Agricultural Museum. A large part of the collection thus went to Frýdek, and only part of it remained in Sedliště.
The tradition of collecting continues: on the first floor of the old school building next to the wooden Church of All Saints are objects from households, agricultural and craft tools, and men’s and women’s costumes from the Sedlišťané ethnographic association. The exhibition, prepared for the 700th anniversary of the first mention of the village in 2005, was later renewed and expanded; separate rooms are devoted to the association’s activities and to local clubs, the Rozkvět Mining Society and the fire brigade. A separate part of the museum is a historical library focused on Lašsko culture, which holds more than 4,000 volumes and manuscripts.
