Over het museum
The first attempts to establish a museum in Letovice date back to the first half of the 20th century, but the town only acquired a permanent museum in spring 2018. It is housed in the historic administrative building of the former Faber tulle and lace factory (later Tylex), dating from 1752; the entrance is from Zámecká street. The museum belongs to the Městské kulturní středisko Letovice (Letovice Municipal Cultural Centre), and the first exhibition was devoted to the history of the town and region.
A significant turning point came in 2020, when the museum received from the company Tylex Letovice an extensive collection of technical designs for curtains and lace pattern books, from the late 19th century to the present. It is one of the oldest and largest collections of machine lace in Central Europe and includes samples from defunct lace-making firms. Part of the collection is shown in the permanent exhibition The Story of Letovice Lace, about the factory founded in 1832.
Today these are supplemented by the exhibitions Káva Lamplota (Lamplot's Coffee), about the First Republic merchant and inventor Hubert Lamplot, Prvorepublikový koloniál (First Republic Grocery Shop), Skryté poklady země (Hidden Treasures of the Earth), with minerals from the Letovice area, and Za oponou času (Behind the Curtain of Time), about the local puppet theatre. The museum also holds exhibitions, lectures, workshops and a Museum Night.
