Over het museum
The Mlejn Museum is housed in the building of the former Samuela & Wechsberg groats mill on today's Nádražní Street. The mill was built in 1886, and the building has remained standing, with only minor alterations, as a monument to the milling craft. The museum occupies part of the attic in the right wing of the house; the left wing holds the Mlejn Gallery, run by the same association.
The exhibition is devoted to the history of mills in the Ostrava region. Alongside the story of eight Ostrava water mills, it also provides information on other mills in the surroundings, on the milling craft and on ways of grinding grain. Period objects connected with grain processing are on display and, since 2010, an exhibition of grain mills with one of the most extensive collections of metal grain mills in the Czech Republic.
The museum can be visited only after prior telephone arrangement. In summer, guided tours take place every Tuesday at 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00. The museum is run by the Mlejn association.
