Over het museum
The Moser glassworks was founded in 1857, when twenty-four-year-old glass engraver Ludwig Moser opened his own workshop in Karlovy Vary. After his success at the world exhibition in Vienna in 1873, he became purveyor to the Imperial Court, and his crystal gradually gained fame at other world exhibitions. From 1916 the glassworks was led by the brothers Leo, Richard and Gustav Moser. Leo Moser became a pioneer of coloured glass with added oxides of precious metals.
Moser crystal found its way to monarchs, heads of state and even popes. Since 2000 the glassworks has also produced the prize for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The glassworks remains a place of handcraft, which can be seen during a tour of the glass hut.
The Moser Museum is part of the visitor centre on the grounds of the glassworks in Karlovy Vary. It traces the history from the oldest works to contemporary collections and presents the important owners of Moser crystal works. Visitors can use an audio guide and walk through the exhibition at their own pace.
