Over het museum

The spacious burgher house on the main square of Kolín was founded in the second half of the 13th century. In 1494–1499 it belonged to Jakub Krčín the Elder of Jelčany, grandfather of the famous fishpond builder Jakub Krčín of Jelčany. In the first third of the 18th century the house was owned by the town official Pavel Samuelis, and an important Baroque rebuilding took place there. From 1757 to 1858 it belonged to the wealthy Veiger family, and in 1863 the merchant Josef Turnau rebuilt it into its late Classicist form.

In 2016 a major reconstruction and extension of the house was completed. It is now the main seat of the Regional Museum in Kolín, a contributory organisation of the Central Bohemian Region with a tradition of more than a century. The museum collects items from archaeology, history, art history, ethnography and the natural sciences.

The house contains the permanent exhibitions History of Kolín, History of the Veigert House in the Gothic cellars with archaeological finds from research carried out in 2014–2015, the Battle of Kolín about the battle of 18 June 1757, and the natural history exhibition World of Insects. The museum also includes further Kolín buildings: the Červinkovský dům (Červinka House) and the Dvořákovo muzeum pravěku (Dvořák Museum of Prehistory).

• Dějiny Kolína – The permanent historical exhibition presents the history of the royal town from its founding in the mid-13th century to the mid-19th century, supplemented by models of monuments and multimedia projections.
• Bitva u Kolína – The exhibition on the battle of 18 June 1757 shows a collection of edged weapons and firearms from the Silesian Wars, paintings and a schematic model of the decisive phase of the battle.
• Svět hmyzu – The natural history exhibition on entomology presents 29 insect orders, social insects, the relationship between insects and humans, and the habitats of the Kolín region.
