Over het museum

The museum is run by the association Vojenské muzeum LOUČKA – Pearl Harbor a Centrum Emila Josefa Kapauna v České republice (Military Museum LOUČKA – Pearl Harbor and Emil Josef Kapaun Centre in the Czech Republic). The association collects historical materials, exhibits and documents from the Second World War period in the area of Loučka near Vizovice and in Wallachia. A special part of the collection relates to the events of 7 December 1941 at Pearl Harbor and also follows the descendants of Czechoslovaks who fought there.

The museum is housed in a small family house, and its exhibition is divided into several parts. One is devoted to the Second World War and the history of Loučka and the whole of Wallachia; another analyses the attack on Pearl Harbor and its global context, with reference to our lands, including exhibits of the American and Japanese armies. A separate theme is Emil Josef Kapaun, a descendant of Czechoslovaks, captain in the American army and military chaplain, who died in Korea. He was awarded the highest American military decoration, and the process of his beatification has been initiated. The last part recalls the role of clergy in the Second World War and the resistance of priests and chaplains in the army.

Alongside running the museum, members of the association devote themselves to lectures, publishing and educational activities, and to supporting young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds in sport. The museum can be visited by arrangement and on announced days of the open museum.
