Over het museum
The museum is housed in a former steam locomotive shed, built in 1906 at the end of the Doudleby nad Orlicí – Vamberk – Rokytnice v Orlických horách railway line. The building was declared a cultural monument in January 2010. The town of Rokytnice acquired the shed and, together with the Letohrad Railway Club (Letohradský železniční klub), carried out the most urgent repairs. The museum opened on 1 May 2010 and is run mainly by volunteers of the association in cooperation with the town.
The exhibition commemorates the twenty-kilometre line and its stations, regional railways and the technical equipment of the railways. The largest exhibit is steam locomotive 328.011, which the association is trying to make operational again. Also on display are signalling devices, special equipment for mountain lines, original equipment of the shed and a model railway. Signals rescued from scrapping are to be displayed later in the outdoor area.
The entrance ticket is a paper ticket with a date stamp, which visitors can punch themselves with historic conductors’ pliers. Proceeds from admission are used to repair the building and expand the exhibition.
