Over het museum
Breamore House is an Elizabethan manor completed in 1583 for the Dodington family on the site of Breamore Priory, on the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire. After a serious fire in 1856 it was extensively restored. In the 18th century it was bought by Sir Edward Hulse, physician to Queen Anne and to George I and George II, and it is still the home of the Hulse family, now in its ninth generation.
The rooms hold family paintings, tapestries, porcelain and period furniture, together with heirlooms that came to the family through marriage. Visitors see the house on guided tours led by the family's guides. The house has also appeared on screen, for example in the 2005 film of Pride and Prejudice.
The estate also has a Countryside Museum, which recreates a village with a dairy, a blacksmith's workshop, a schoolroom and a cottage, and displays a large collection of agricultural machinery, including steam-powered equipment and a working steam workshop. A farm shop, a cafe and a 1,000-year-old yew tree beside the drive complete the visit.
