Over het museum
Buscot Park was built between 1780 and 1783 for Edward Loveden Loveden in a plain neoclassical style; the architect is unknown. The Loveden family sold it in 1859 to the Australian-born Robert Tertius Campbell, and in 1887 it was bought by the financier Alexander Henderson, later the first Baron Faringdon.
After the first baron's death in 1934, the house was altered and restored to its 18th-century form for his grandson Gavin Henderson, the second Baron Faringdon, who also greatly enlarged the art collection his grandfather had begun. The estate passed to the National Trust, and the contents belong to the Faringdon Collection Trust; the house is lived in and managed by the present Lord Faringdon and his family, not by the National Trust.
The collection includes works by artists such as Rembrandt and Burne-Jones, together with furniture and silver. The grounds have extensive pleasure gardens, including the Four Seasons garden and the Peto water garden, and woodland avenues. The house, grounds and tea room are open on selected afternoons between April and September.
