Over het museum
The Old Manor at Norbury is a medieval hall house built by William FitzHerbert in the mid-14th century. It is remarkably well preserved and is noted for its king post roof, a medieval fireplace, a Tudor door and some 17th-century Flemish glass. The FitzHerbert family held the manor from the 12th century, and the site is listed Grade I.
Next to the hall stands Norbury Manor, a house rebuilt in about 1680 on the site of an earlier Tudor house, with 19th-century additions. The manor was badly damaged by Parliamentary forces during the English Civil War and lay ruinous after the death of Sir John FitzHerbert in 1649, until his cousin William FitzHerbert of Swynnerton Hall rebuilt the Tudor part. The FitzHerberts sold the estate in 1881.
The National Trust has owned the site since 1987. The larger manor house is now let as holiday accommodation, while the medieval hall, known as The Old Manor, is the part opened to visitors. Visitors can also see a small, carefully kept garden, take a short walk into the woodland and follow a path down to the river.
