Over het museum

V&A East is the V&A's presence in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London, set up as part of the East Bank cultural district. It has two sites a short walk apart. V&A East Storehouse, in the Here East building in Hackney Wick, opened first, in May 2025. It is a working museum store that lets visitors see half a million works from the V&A collection across three public levels, with mini displays, free group sessions called Object Encounters, and a glass overlook onto a conservation studio. It also houses the Study Centre, which includes the David Bowie Centre, a permanent home for David Bowie's archive.

V&A East Museum, in Stratford, opened in April 2026 in a new building designed by O'Donnell & Tuomey. Created with young people and rooted in east London's heritage, it spreads over five floors and presents the Why We Make galleries, with more than 500 objects ranging across centuries and cultures. Items by Leigh Bowery and Althea McNish are shown alongside recent acquisitions from east London. Its opening exhibition was The Music is Black: A British Story, on 125 years of Black British music-making.

Both sites are free to enter, with charges only for some exhibitions and events, and both are open daily with late opening on Thursdays and Saturdays. The museum site has a café, shops and a Changing Places toilet, while the Storehouse asks visitors to leave bags and coats in free lockers before entering the collections hall. The museum also offers evening events, including DJ sets on Thursday evenings, and venue hire.
