The Espace Arthur Masson opened its doors on 27 March 1999. It occupies the three former schools of the village of Treignes, which were separate at the time: the nursery school, the girls' school and the boys' school. A small village square was laid out as a convivial space, with a fountain by Claude Rahir at its centre, unveiled in September 1998; it depicts three characters from the Toinade, Arthur Masson's best-known novel.

The site pays tribute to this Walloon writer and his work, and highlights rural life from 1930 to 1960, in particular the teaching methods of primary school. The former nursery school now houses the reception and the tavern “Chez Toine”. In the former girls' school, classrooms have been arranged as they were in 1932 (the École d'Autrefois). The former town hall, which also served as the boys' school, houses the “Trignolles” sound-and-light show, with an audio guide in four languages about life in the Ardennes between 1930 and 1960.

The entrance to the show is decorated with a 16 m² fresco by the painter Marcel Lupsin, unveiled in 2001, depicting the imaginary village of Trignolles based on a 1932 postcard of Treignes. The singer Julos Beaucarne, patron of the Espace, appears in the introductory film. A new building, the “Maison de Toine”, is to be inaugurated during the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) on 12 and 13 September 2026.
