Om museet
The Molenmuseum was founded in 1975 by Karel Van den Bossche as a study centre for molinology, the science that studies everything about the mill: its technology, history, economics, law, folk culture and heritage value. Later his family took over the management. The museum was first housed in the former library on the Kerkstraat in the village. At the end of 2015 it closed its doors there after forty years.
In 2016 the museum moved to the Molendreef, outside the village centre of Sint-Amands. It found a place in an underground space in the mill hill, which also houses storage rooms, toilets and an educational room with a view of the landscape and the mill. The reopening took place on 11 June 2016.
In the museum you get to know the history of the mill, the different types of mill and the stories of millers. Part of the collection can be seen in the newer building on the Molendreef. On the same site stands the Gansakkermolen, a wooden post mill from 1797 that originally stood in Geel and was rebuilt here in 2024.
