Om museet
The museum is at number 10 on the Grand-Place, in the House of the Brewers, also known as the House of the Golden Tree. The building was the guildhouse of the brewers' guild; after the bombardment of Brussels in 1695 it was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century. After the guilds were abolished it had various other uses, before becoming the seat of the Belgian brewers again in 1954.
The museum occupies the vaulted cellars and part of the ground floor. It presents Belgian brewing culture through the tools of brewers, coopers and blacksmiths, mash tuns and fermentation vessels, a copper kettle, 18th-century wooden brewing equipment, pumps, barrels, taps, tankards, carafes and old glasses.
Part of the route is devoted to modern industrial techniques, presented in multimedia form. The visit ends in the estaminet, where you can taste a Belgian beer blind, offered by the brewers. The museum should not be confused with Belgian Beer World, the attraction at the Bourse.
