Om museet
The Wielermuseum De Gistelse Flandriens is housed in the restored barn at the Oostmolen site in Gistel. The documentation centre of the local history circle is also housed in the same building. The museum is devoted to two cyclists from Gistel: Sylveer Maes, who won the Tour de France in 1936 and 1939, and Johan Museeuw, nicknamed the “Leeuw van Vlaanderen” (Lion of Flanders) and winner of, among others, the Tour of Flanders and Paris–Roubaix.
With the support of Eddy and Johan Museeuw and of Annie Maes, a valuable permanent collection could be assembled. Photos, images and typical collectors' items highlight the achievements of both riders.
