Om museet
The apartment-studio occupies the top two floors of the Immeuble Molitor, built between 1931 and 1934 on the border of Paris and Boulogne-Billancourt by Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret. This 240 m² duplex served the architect as both home and painting studio, and he lived there until his death in 1965. The building has eight storeys and fully glazed façades; it is presented as the first residential building made of glass in the history of architecture.
The rooms illustrate the principles dear to Le Corbusier: free plan, long ribbon windows, polychromy, large pivoting doors and a roof terrace. The building was listed as a historic monument, first in part in 1972 and then in its entirety in 2017.
The apartment is one of the Le Corbusier works inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016, along with sixteen other sites. It also holds the Maison des Illustres label and was restored in 2017 and 2018. Visits are organised by the Fondation Le Corbusier.
