Om museet
In the 1970s, fishermen from the island of Houat set up a lobster hatchery about fifteen minutes' walk from the village. The site was later bought by the Yves Rocher group, which opened the Eclosarium there in 1994.
The place is a blend of museum and laboratory. The production area, closed to the public, cultivates microalgae used in cosmetic ingredients.
The visit has three parts: the island's history and the daily life of its inhabitants, phytoplankton with educational panels and videos, and the use of microalgae in cosmetics. It ends in a shop featuring creations by local artists and marine cosmetics. A different art exhibition is shown each season.
