Maison de la photographie des Landes

Om museet

The Maison de la photographie des Landes occupies the house where the photographer and ethnologist Félix Arnaudin (1844–1921) was born and died, a typical Landes dwelling in the Monge district of Labouheyre. In 2001 the town acquired the house to create a venue for photographic creation and its dissemination in the Landes and in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The house has received the Maisons des Illustres label.

Its mission is to show, through photography, how residents relate to their territory and how activities and social relationships have changed. Each year an exhibition is devoted to Arnaudin's work, and the house has organised or co-organised nearly 35 exhibitions, notably with the Musée d'Aquitaine in Bordeaux and the Parc naturel régional des Landes de Gascogne.

The house also hosts residencies for photographers and artists working in the region, whose work forms a collection of photographs and documents from the early 21st century. Artists lead workshops with pupils from local schools every year. The main funders are the town of Labouheyre and the Landes departmental council.
