Om museet
The Civray Archaeological Museum is a municipal museum bearing the “Musée de France” label. It is housed in an 18th-century house whose attic has an oak roof frame shaped like an upturned ship’s hull.
Most of the collections come from 19th-century excavations in the Chaffaud caves at Savigné. The Gallo-Roman part comes from excavations at the Rocheras villa at Voulême. The museum is particularly known for its local Magdalenian collection and holds a copy of the famous reindeer bone discovered in the Chaffaud caves.
