Om museet
The museum project began in 1934 with the Russian painter Jean Peské, who gathered a first collection of works donated by artists. The building that houses it was originally a grand residence, the “Château Tiné”, built for Joseph Clara.
In 1947 former senator Gaston Pams bought the property, which became the Villa Pams and was surrounded by a Mediterranean garden. The town of Collioure bought back the villa in 1981, and the museum was inaugurated on September 20, 1985.
The collection holds more than 1,600 works: early 20th-century modern art by artists who worked in Collioure, contemporary pieces, and works of the Support Surface movement created during a residency in the town. Part of a former Dominican cloister, reassembled in the garden, is also part of the visit.
The museum is closed for works. It is due to reopen in 2028 in a completely redesigned space, with a permanent exhibition, three temporary exhibitions a year, a space for drawing, reading and workshops, and a rooftop terrace with a view over the bay.
