Om museet
The museum occupies an 18th-century town house at the far end of a garden in the centre of Auxerre. Paul Leblanc-Duvernoy bequeathed it to the city in 1927, first to preserve his family's memory, then to pursue his passion for the arts by turning the residence into a museum.
The ceramic collections were largely formed in the 1980s from several ensembles: the Garnier purchase and bequest, the Pagès gift and the Pellet purchase. The route focuses on the history of the city and region and includes a room devoted to patronymic faience (pieces bearing family names), as well as revolutionary faience, Auxerre productions and Puisaye stoneware. The reception rooms also hold 18th-century Beauvais tapestries, listed as monuments historiques, which show scenes from the life of the Chinese emperor Kangxi. The storerooms also contain paintings, sculptures, textiles, drawings and models, whose records have been published on the Joconde database since April 2016.
