Om museet
The mineralogy museum of the Société industrielle de Mulhouse has been housed since 1966 by the School of Chemistry of Mulhouse (ENSCMu), on the Collines de l'Illberg campus. It holds the “Musée de France” label.
The collections come from four sources: specimens recovered after the Second World War, some pieces from the school's original mineral collection, minerals bought or donated by other museums or national bodies, and numerous minerals acquired between 1960 and 1966.
Specimens weigh from a few dozen grams to nearly 40 kg. They come in particular from Brazil, Madagascar, Namibia, the United States, Romania, Switzerland and Germany. Few local pieces are on display; regional and French minerals have mainly arrived as gifts.
