Om museet
The Musée Taurin in Béziers is run by the Union Taurine Biterroise, the association that presents itself as the city's oldest bullfighting club. It holds objects gathered by aficionados over more than 120 years and reflects the importance of bullfighting tradition in Béziers.
The museum occupies the former church of the Dominican friars' convent, dating from the late 16th century. After the ground-floor rooms were renovated by the city's departments, it reopened to the public on June 15, 2021.
Among the pieces on display are the suit of lights (habit de lumière) of the matador Luis Mazzantini, the goyesque costume of Sébastien Castella from Béziers and the Tauromaquia series by Goya. New loans regularly enrich the collections.
